Nintendo Switch 2 Launches to Historical Triumph; Suffers from Success

The Nintendo Switch 2 (source: Nintendo.com) released on 5 June 2025 and surpassed 3.5 million units sold within 4 days, breaking landmark records for the fastest-selling console in history. By comparison, the first Nintendo Switch launched in 2017 and sold 4.4 million units over 29 days.

This meteoric sale has beaten the previous record holders, the PlayStation 4 and 5, by leaps and bounds. The PlayStation 4 launched with 2.1 million units sold in a little over 2 weeks, while the PlayStation 5 launched with 3.4 million units sold in the first month.

However, such success has come with trade-offs, namely that Nintendo has been struggling to meet global demand, leading to widespread shortages and fulfillment delays.

As standard for most console launches, the Nintendo Switch 2 has its growing pains relating to online connectivity reliability, a lack of available third-party games for immediate purchase and – with an increasing number of implementing backwards compatibility – bug fixes and patches to accommodate Switch 1 games with the Switch 2.

Despite these trade-offs, consumer sentiment is demonstrated by the enormous sales positions of the Nintendo Switch 2, which will dwarf its predecessor in sales over the coming years.

Survive the desert, inhale the spice and play with friends in Dune: Awakening

Funcom’s open-world survival game based on fantasy series Dune had officially launched this month. Dune: Awakening features the usual survival antics of base building, resource gathering and quest completion but with a more unique approach to PVP—and of course, you can’t forget the notorious colossal sand worms trying to turn you into a quick snack.

You may be wondering, “How does this game fit into Dune’s canon?” and luckily, this is all explained in the brief cinematic when launching the game. In this world, Paul Atreides was never born, and the Fremen have disappeared. It’s up to you to uncover this mystery in Arrakis.

What if? A game about identity, decisions, and survival: The Alters! Out Now!

Imagine… you had become someone else? Jan’s story starts almost a bit typical for a story set in space: He is stranded on an alien planet, alone and only with one goal in mind — return home.

In The Alter, Jan soon discovers that he’s the only survivor of his crew. Everyone else didn’t survive the crash on the alien planet. But we soon find an alternative to the dead crew: Rapidium, which you can use to create Alters of Jan.

This puts the theory into action: What would have become of me if I had learned a different profession or chosen a different course of study? What kind of person would I be today? If that sounds interesting to you, you should consider this unique mind-bending game!

Snag it on: Steam, Xbox (Xbox game pass as well), PlayStation and Epic games
