Pokémon claims it is not involved in viral ICE raid video
On the 23rd of September, the United States of America’s Homeland Security social media account released a controversial video titled “Gotta Catch ‘Em All.”
The video featured clips of ICE raids on properties around the country, mixed in with clips of the Pokémon anime, all while the Pokémon theme plays in the background.
This has prompted multiple shares encouraging the owners of the Pokémon, who have a reputation of involving legal consequences in the alleged misuse of their IP, to sue the US government.
While it is unclear if the company will pursue legal action, they have provided the following statement : “We are aware of a recent video posted by the Department of Homeland Security that includes imagery and language associated with our brand. Our company was not involved in the creation or distribution of this content, and permission was not granted for the use of our intellectual property.”
